Important Digital Marketing Lessons of the COVID-19 Crisis

The first half of 2020 has been one of the toughest times in the history of most businesses, including us. One way or another, we were all pushed to slow down, take a moment, and step back. But while it was a time many of us (if not all) experienced major setbacks, it has also been a pivotal moment that opened up numerous opportunities—opportunities to rediscover our values and improve our business.

We’re crossing the midyear hopeful and grateful. Join us as we reflect on the journey we’ve had over the past first half of the year and the things these trying times have taught us.

Lesson #1: Turn panic into pivot.

The changes brought about by the pandemic hit businesses hard, big and small. But those who took this monumental time to pivot are able to see themselves afloat amid the chaos.

One of the most actionable solutions brands saw was digitisation. Being an industry leader, it delights us to see more and more brands finding their way through the new normal with the help of digital marketing. 

Lesson #2: The most important part of your business is your customers.

Now more than ever, we’ve realised the value of our customers. When routines changed as caused by the pandemic, us businesses needed to adapt to meet people’s newfound habits and challenges—from our marketing strategies to the way we operate. Simply because customers are the most important part of our business. We exist to answer their needs, provide their wants, and solve their biggest pain points.

Lesson #3: Get into the habit of reviewing and realigning your marketing strategies.

We are all still getting used to the changes brought about by the pandemic. Even the consumers are still processing things out. As we are all navigating our way through this new normal, it’s important to look closely on the messages we are putting out there. Are we being sensitive with our content? Are we aware of the emotions our target market might be feeling right now? Are we posting valuable content that is relevant to what is happening today?

Lesson #4: Build your business to be adaptable.

One of the biggest lessons these trying times have taught us is the importance of building business resilience. Before entering 2020, the thought of all these chaos happening seems so farfetched. But here we are now. By now, we’ve learned that no matter how big or small a business is, you aren’t spared from a crisis like this.

What does this say to us? While it’s important to focus on what’s happening now, always keep a close eye to how you can improve your business and become adaptable to what might happen in the future. TIP: Business digitisation

Lesson #5: Always have a continuity plan.

With everything that’s been happening, we’ve never been more uncertain about the future. Yes, we can’t predict. But you know what we can do? We can plan.

What this crisis has taught us is to always put contingency plans in place. We can’t just sit idly waiting for the pandemic to pass. We need to work out different scenarios and prepare our business for the different ways the situation can evolve.

I guess what we’re trying to say is that in business, you either win or you learn. We’ve had our share of mishaps just like many other businesses out there, but what’s important is to take out what we learn and strive to move forward.
